Cheltenham History series
Virtual trails of collections in the galleries
1951 was the year of the Festival of Britain. The official festival mostly took place in London, but there were events all over the nation. Cheltenham was no exception. A series of events was put on in Cheltenham, including a the hugely popular Exhibition of Cotswold Craftsmanship, a celebration of fifty years of craft in the region. The exhibition was put on by Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum, and held at the Montpellier Rotunda. This exhibition tells the story of the exhibition and highlights some of the objects on display, some of which have subsequently been acquired by the Art Gallery & Museum.
